Collection: Atman
Atman: the true self that lies deep within you.
Strip away as much as you will, and there remains something that cannot be divided any further — a single individual. Perhaps each of us carries, somewhere deep inside, something that will not divide evenly.
With its cap closed, Atman measures 151mm. The 36th prime number.
A prime number can be divided evenly only by one and by itself. Neither the judgments of others nor the roles you play can divide you evenly. I chose this measurement as the length of one individual: you.
Even beneath a rippling surface, there is a you that no one can divide. If you can believe that, then I think the restless doubts in your heart, and the feelings that will not become words, can be left just as they are.
A streamlined form that tapers gently toward both ends, recalling the fountain pens of the 1930s. Ebonite slowly takes in the warmth of your hand, and settles into your fingertips.
The instant the nib touches paper, the sounds of the outside world begin, little by little, to recede. Another self begins, quietly, to watch the self that is writing.
Doubts that rise and fade, feelings that will not become words — not chasing them away, simply watching them.
The rippling surface grows still, and without quite knowing how, you touch what lies in the depths of the clear water. That moment.
This pen was made for finding your true self.
And yet, it will never hand you an answer. The one who finds it is always you. My hope is that this pen can be a small clue — something that helps you face yourself with a heart that still will not divide evenly, and return to who you are.
In the place closest to your silence.
*The number in the model name shows which prime number the capped length is (Atman_36 = 151mm, the 36th prime).
