The Short began when my vintage Waterman 52 1/2 fountain pen started leaking ink. I felt a sense of mission to create something that would retain its size while using a modern unit and be safe. Ishould have stopped there, but ever since making the Short, I couldn't resist the desire to add a point (accent) to the balance, so Idrew up plans, created tools, equipment, and jigs to achieve this, and the Short+ wasborn. I've kept the name "Short" to avoid further derivative works.
Purple heart accents
The black parts are made of ebonite. Ebonite isa semi-natural resin invented by Goodyear in 1839, named for its appearance similar to ebony. It is not a plastic, but is classified as a "hard rubber" of natural rubber. Ebonite's soft texture is similar to human skin, not too cold, and feels comfortable in your fingers, with a warm feel. Carbon is mixed in to prevent discoloration.
This pen is compatible with G2 ballpoint pen refills. We have confirmed this with Mitsubishi Jetstream and Schmidt Fineliner pens, both of which have reliable nib accuracy. Please note that refills with poor nib accuracy may not fit.
