Short + "Nedake" Fountain Pen 2025/10/02_3

We've used bamboo roots for the Short+. Bamboo roots are the thick roots that connect the bamboo above ground to the other bamboos underground. They support the bamboo's strong core. Thin roots emerge from the small nodes, and new bamboo shoots emerge from the larger, eye-like areas. We hope you can experience the slightly different texture from the wood grain jiku and the vitality of bamboo roots.

The Short series began when my vintage Waterman 52 1/2 fountain pen started leaking ink. I felt a sense of mission to create something that would retain its size while using a modern unit and be safe. I should have stopped there, but ever since making the Short, I couldn't resist the desire to add a point (accent) to this balance, so I drew up plans, created tools, equipment, and jigs to make it happen, and the Short+ was born. I've kept the name "Short" to avoid further derivative works.

To avoid further derivatives, the name "Short" has been retained.

The nodes of the bamboo root are used for the accent parts.

The black parts are made of ebonite. Ebonite is a semi-natural resin invented by Goodyear in 1839, named for its appearance similar to ebony. It is not a plastic, but is classified as a "hard rubber" of natural rubber. Ebonite's soft texture is similar to human skin, not too cold, and feels comfortable in your fingers, with a warm feel. Carbon is mixed in to prevent discoloration.

The nib, which can be said to be the heart of a fountain pen, is made by JOWO.
